The La Salle School at St. Gabriel Parish in East Elmhurst, NY will close at the end of the current school year. The District Council of the De La Salle Christian Brothers voted March 18, 2010 to end its canonical sponsorship of the school. Over the last few years, the school has relied on the District Council for funding to make up the shortfall between tuition, fundraising and increasing operating costs in these economically challenging times. The Brothers are no longer able to make this commitment. Without the financial guaranty, the policy of the Brooklyn Diocese requires the school to close.
