New Intercom Shows How Lasallians Confront Commodification

Intercom-147_eng-1The latest issue of Intercom, a publication of the Institute of the Brothers of Christian Schools, focuses on how Lasallian initiatives throughout the world combat commodification. The theme ties into the Lasallian theme for the 2015-2016 liturgical year, “A Gospel Adventure: Confronting New Poverties and the Culture of Commodification.”

Initiatives that address this theme from the Lasallian Region of North America are highlighted on pages 14-15. They include stories about the 2016 Lasallian Social Justice Institute with a focus on human trafficking, a session at the 2016 Lasallian Association of Secondary School Chief Administrators on using social media responsibly, the Digital Citizenship Policy at The San Miguel School of Providence in Rhode Island, and a professional development day at Christian Brothers High School in Sacramento, California, where teachers and staff discussed disconnecting from technology and promoting empathy and an appreciation of solitude.

This issue also features a story on the inauguration of a new building at Notre-Dame de la Rouge Center on page 13. Additionally, on pages 9-12, Intercom tells the story of Brother Solomon Le Clercq, FSC, who will be canonized on October 16, 2016, through youth-friendly illustrations.

Intercom invites Lasallians to recognize commodification in their communities and consider how to raise awareness and respond to combat commodification.
