Manhattan Alumnus Author James Patterson Donates Scholarships

PattersonAward-winning author James Patterson continues to support his alma mater, Manhattan College in Riverdale, NY, with the establishment of 16 new James Patterson Scholarships.

Starting in the fall, 16 rising seniors and juniors who exemplify hard work, determination and leadership in the classroom and within the campus community will each be awarded a $5,000 scholarship. Selections will be made based on merit, need and involvement in activities related to the College’s mission.

“My hope is that our program will help motivate and stimulate potential leaders at the College who will go on to do great things in their communities,” Patterson ’69 said.

During the scholarship program’s second year, Patterson will increase the scholarships from 16 to 18. Four of the senior scholarships recipients will be awarded $7,500 each based on contributions they made to Manhattan throughout their junior year. The remaining 14 recipients will receive $5,000.

In addition to the new Patterson scholarships, he currently funds the James Patterson Minority Scholarship at Manhattan, which started in 2006 and has supported the education of 25 students.
