Lewis University Honors the Brothers for 50 Years of Service

Lewis 50th web

This year, Lewis University is celebrating its 50th anniversary as an institute of higher education sponsored by the Brothers of the Christian Schools. A special ceremony was held on April 7 to honor the Brothers’ commitment and dedication.

More than 100 Brothers have served at Lewis since 1960 as teachers, administrators or trustees. Currently, 14 serve as faculty or staff. Nineteen Brothers were present at the ceremony and renewed their vows. They were awarded 50th Anniversary commemorative medallions, which other Brothers who have made significant contributions to the University will receive as well.

Provost Dr. Stephany Schlachter said the Brothers came to Lewis to live the mission, not simply talk about it. “They are the heart of this University. Not only the lives of our students, but our own lives are better because of their commitment.”

The event launched a series of special programs and events that will take place during the spring and fall semesters, celebrating the mission value of Association, the Lasallian tradition and philosophy of education, and the student-centered spirit of collaboration that the Brothers brought to Lewis College of Science and Technology in 1960.
