Bro. Frederick Mueller Named Recipient of Regional Award

Br. FredBrother Frederick C. Mueller, FSC, Ed.D., Coordinator of Faculty/Staff Professional Development and Lasallian Formation at La Salle Academy, Providence, RI, has been named the recipient of the Brother John Johnston, FSC Award.

This Regional award recognizes Brothers and Lasallian Partners who, like Bro. John, have endeavored on the international or regional levels over the course of many years to advance the Institute’s Mission to provide a human and Christian education to the young, especially the poor. The award is presented to those whose leadership, teaching, evangelization, or scholarly research and writing have borne witness to an abiding faith and zeal, and whose efforts have had a transformative impact upon the Founding Story as lived today.

“I am humbled yet honored to be selected as the 2011 recipient of the Brother John Johnston, FSC Award,” said Bro. Frederick. “I count Brother John and the prior recipients of the award as friends and Lasallian mentors on my Lasallian journey; thus, I am humbled to be in their company, the company of Lasallian giants. What I have done to advance the Lasallian Mission is a natural consequence of my great love for this Mission and for all who have made this Mission their own. I have done nothing more than put my God-given gifts at the disposal of that which I love and to which I have committed my life.”

Over his 45 years as a Brother, Bro. Frederick has been a teacher and administrator in elementary schools, high schools, and post-secondary institutions. He has taught court-adjudicated youth and served as Assistant Superintendent of Schools for the Diocese of Providence. He has also held positions of leadership at the District, Regional, and Institute levels. Bro. Frederick served on the design team for both the Buttimer Institute of Lasallian Studies and the Lasallian Leadership Institute, and has been on the faculty of both Institutes. He has published monographs and articles, and has lectured extensively on a variety of Lasallian topics.

The first three Brother John Johnston, FSC Awards were given to Bro. Luke Salm (posthumously), Bro. Miguel Campos, and Fr. Kenan Osborne. Bro. Frederick will join this noteworthy group when he is presented with the award at the Distinguished Lasallian Educator Awards Dinner on November 19, 2011 at St. John’s College High School in Washington, D.C. at the conclusion of the Huether Lasallian Conference.

The Huether Lasallian Conference is an annual gathering of Lasallian educators in the USA-Toronto Region which explores emerging educational issues and themes. This year’s theme is Faith in Action: Civic Engagement through Lasallian Education. The Conference will take place from November 17-19, 2011 at L’Enfant Plaza Hotel, Washington, D.C.
